Missing or damaged teeth can have a considerable impact on your life. Whether your teeth have been damaged in an accident or due to biological reasons, if they don't work properly, you won't be able to smile, eat or talk like you used to. And that can massively impact your health, appearance and self-confidence. Fortunately, dental implants can change all of that, restoring your oral health, your smile and your self-confidence.
When it comes to missing or damaged teeth, choosing the right option for teeth replacement makes all the difference. Some of the options include removable or implant-supported dentures. However, as they are removable, they are far less comfortable and don’t offer the same biting force as your natural teeth, restricting your ability to eat and talk as normal.
With dental implants, you no longer have to suffer from the discomfort of other teeth replacements. Instead, you have a fixed prosthesis that looks and feels much better. The difference with dental implants is that they permanently replace the root of missing teeth, bonding with your jawbone and creating the strongest possible foundation for replacement teeth. The result is a long, lasting, comfortable and natural-looking solution. Dental implants preserve your jawbone structure, restore your facial aesthetics and support your existing teeth.
As with conventional dental implants, All on 4 implants work to replace the root structure of missing teeth. This is done by placing a titanium screw directly into the jawbone. Over time, the jawbone grows and fuses with the root, imitating a natural root structure and holding it tightly in place.
However, to replace a full upper or lower set of teeth, you need to have 4 implants per arch or more. This is where the innovative All on 4 technique comes into its own; it can support a full arch of teeth with only four implants. The procedure works by cleverly angling the posterior implants to avoid bone-deficient areas at the back of the mouth.
The All on 4 procedure is less invasive and requires fewer preliminary procedures. The result is a technique that is suitable for more complex cases, promotes the healing and rehabilitation process and is considerably faster than traditional implants.
Dental implants are a potential treatment for anyone who is struggling with damaged or missing teeth, especially if missing teeth are impacting your quality of life, dentures are causing discomfort or conventional implants aren’t suitable due to reduced bone density. However, as with any procedure, there are certain biological, medical conditions and lifestyle choices that need to be considered before treatment can be prescribed.
With so many dentists offering implant treatments, choosing can be confusing. However, not all implant
dentists are created equal. You should always consider three key areas:
Dentists can complete short courses to enable them to perform dental implants. However, for implant dentistry to be a core focus, they should have more knowledge and experience. This gives them the clinical, theoretical and practical education they need to deliver high-quality treatment.
A dentist who performs occasional implants will not have encountered as many different types of cases. By choosing a dentist who performs hundreds of implants cases, you know they have a wide range of experience. With experience under their belt, you can have confidence that your treatment plan will cover every possible detail.
You have a right to know who will manufacture your implants and prosthetic teeth and which country they are manufactured in. With more and more low-cost and low-quality alternatives on the market, you need to be certain both your implants and the prosthetic teeth are genuine and adhere to safety regulations. Otherwise, you may face complications, implant failure and further costs down the line.
As we've touched on, many dentists will offer dental implants, but not all are created equal. Some dentists dedicate their careers to implantology, extending their studies, training with the very best in the field and continuously studying new techniques. That said, those who focus on implants as a specialism still need to be extremely proficient in all other forms of dentistry. Cosmetic dentistry, oral surgery and more all come together to make up the required skillset of an implant expert. However, it takes a serious amount of planning and understanding of the implant process to restore a whole mouth of teeth and deliver incredible results, so having a dental implant expert to manage that process makes all the difference.
In saying that everyone should understand that there is no such thing as a dental implants specialist; there's a lot of different specialties in dentistry as orthodontics and periodontics but there isn't a dental implants specialist. For a dentist to be capable and qualified for complex dental implant procedures they have to have sufficient knowledge about different aspects of dentistry such as oral surgery, periodontics and prosthodontics.
With any surgery, there is always a risk of complications. However, those risks decrease significantly if you choose an experienced and highly-qualified implant dentist.
With the right dentist planning your treatment, every factor that could influence its success is taken into account. This means that complications can be minimised and your implants are much more likely to be a success.

Dr Bedeir is dedicated to creating a relaxing environment so that even the most anxious patients can have dental implants. As well as offering local anaesthesia and laughing gas to ensure your treatment is pain-free, you can opt for IV sedation.
IV Sedation, known as sleep dentistry, puts you in a dream-like state. While you won't be fully asleep during the procedure, you won't remember a lot about it afterwards. In fact, at Dental Corner, we're so committed to putting you at ease, we have an entire wing of the practice dedicated to IV sedation.
